Wow, so beautiful very outstanding. I love it Gary
Thanks Mike happy you like it and thanks for watching. Gary
You took on an interesting project and found the beauty within it. The Critter Trails Bowl, the Busy Bugs Bowl, the Way-Back Rescue Bowl. Sometimes what might be viewed as blemishes are the map and the story of where you have been. Far more fascinating than flawless to my mind.
Thank you Cecilia. Those are good names I came across a chunk of wood that has issues but I think I see beauty in it My plans make something special. I saved it from a fire l pit I will tell the whole story when I turn it. Thanks for watching, Gary
Gary, great bowl! I’ve found teak to get good results. Like your design. I also visited Rav’s channel and enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the video Tem million years ago, I worked with a cabinet maker in Corpus Christi, Texas who worked for the same construction company I worked for. I got to help him work on some of the teak furniture he was making for the owner of the company. The owner had large planks of teak in a huge shed in the construction yard. I wish I had asked for some of it. Beautiful wood. Your bowl is really nice. That is neat that you got to meet with your friend.
Thank you Travis! It was not ten million years ago but many years ago I turned some candle holders(Sconce) from a piece of Teak that came from a ship. It was the rails they tied the ropes to. It had huge holes here and there for bolting it down. I made us a pair then turned our mothers single ones. It seems I have those back now. Might see if our kids my like something their grandmothers had that came from me. Thanks for watching, Gary
@@ThePapa1947 I hope the kids are interested in them. It will be some good memories.
Gary that turned out a cracking wee Teak bowl with some very nice grain, well done.
Thanks Alan! I have some candle holders I turned many years ago from a teak plank that came off a ship that was being dismantled. Very pretty wood. Thanks for watching, Gary
I'm headed to my shop right now to start one of these. Your's turned out perfect. Thanks for the video
Thank you Terry and let me know how it turns out. Gary
That is a lovely looking bowl Gary. Sorry but the little video at the end stole the show for me. So great for you to meet Rav. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
Thank you Huw. The only reason I made the video at the start was to show the video at the end. And to feed my turning addiction 😁😲🥴 Take care buddy! Hwyl, Gary
Gorgeous!
Thanks Cecilia I'm happy you like it, Gary
That grain is aMAZing! The bowl is beautiful. Your videos are engaging. I appreciate the way you share your thought process as you work through problems when you encounter them.
Thank you for your kind words. They are much appreciated. Gary
I would be great to meet you and Rav both. I really enjoy watching the videos. Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏🏻!
Thanks so much Stephen and God Bless you as well. Gary
I love it! Where you see a lion I see a tree. The spalting suggests the upper branches and the lion’s nose is the trunk. I am glad you persevered.
Thanks Cecilia it is interesting how we can all see different things. Kind of like the clouds. Just how you first see it. Take care, Gary
Gary thank you for the video. It is wonderful that we can get to know people that we meet over UA-cam.
Thanks Kevin. It was pretty special. Thanks for watching, Gary
After a hectic week, I finally got to sit down an watch some wood turning videos. That is a nice teak wood bowl. It's a simple and quick design that is pleasing to the eye. Nice one, Gary!!
Had one of those myself getting the motor home ready for a family reunion trip. One reason I did the simple turning. The nice grain was a bonus!
As soon as you said Poland I was hoping it was going to be RAV!! Nice bowl, Gary, but nicer still is the meeting! Take care both of you!
Thank you Clayton. I think "Poland" gave it away. Glad I shared that moment. Take care, Gary
Sir, as always, thank you so much for sharing. Every time I power up the lathe, I apply yet one more thing I learned from watching your videos. Your explanations are perfect. And, of course, you demonstrate/model such wonderful techniques. I pay very close attention to the tool angles and how the cutting edges contact the wood surface. And yes, your videos are ALWAYS greatly anticipated.
Thank you very much Michael for your very kind words. They are much appreciated. Happy turning, Gary
It was a short meeting but priceless. One of my dreams came true - to see with You, Gary 👍 For sure we have to reapeat it. All the best for You my Brother from another continent 💪🙏 Rav
Hey Rav I feel the same way. Plenty of comments saying that part of the video was the highlight and loved it. So from another continent take care my brother. Gary
Whoa!!! Absolutely gorgeous, especially that grain and the contrasting band of color.
Thanks Cecilia happy you liked it. I found another nice piece of teak I forgot about. So I will use it soon. Gary
Not every bowl needs to be large. Now I know why I never caught up with you in Portland!
Thanks Valerie. We saw you come into one of the demos and I text you. Was hoping to catch up but you were gone before we got out. I think I replied last night but we were at a family reunion out in the boonies. Bad connection! Gary
@@ThePapa1947 I saw the text, but not you. You are not the only person I did not catch up with, in spite of trying. So many good demos, there was not enough time to socialize except at night.
That is a very nice piece Gary. Had no idea teak had that kind of figure and grain patterns. The dish shape is also very good. So neat that you got to meet Rav (sp?) in person -- that is one of the neat things about this maker community - the connections we get to make electronically and then sometimes in person.
Thanks Mark. While straightening out one of my storage places for boards I found another piece of Teak. Who would have ever guessed we would have met in person. Thanks to Rav's friend in Seattle it happened. Take care, Gary
Thanks Gary for sharing. I look forward to your videos.
Thanks Dwight I appreciate you watching. Gary
I have trouble traveling across a couple of states to meet a UA-cam buddy but he traveled half way around the world. It's really great when that can happen. Thank you for sharing your meeting. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂 PS The turning was pretty good too.
Thanks Glen It worked out well as he was going to meet his good friend in Seattle. And they had planned on the AAW and was hoping I would go. Well it was a very short drive for me (7 miles) only concern was if my ankle could handle all the walking. It worked out. Thanks for watching, Gary
How neat Gary ! Finally meeting your " brother " from Poland ! Those kind of meeting just don't happen that often . Oh , and you are looking good ! Now for the bowl . I love it . I love the little detail you put on the outside . And awesome chatoyance from where I sit . A beautiful bowl . Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing both video's .
Thanks Jon! Happy you liked the bowl but even more so the end of the video. Plus all those who wanted me in front of the camera...there ya go LOL! It was fun to do. Gary
Very cool Gary. So very nice to see you touching bass with an old UA-cam friend! Thanks for the glue up trips with a small bowl blanket!! Cheers, Rick
Thanks Rick it was a great time. I think the tenon's are really handy for a thin board. Thanks for watching, Gary
Gary, that is absolutely gorgeous! My segment work is not even close to what you've done. I guess I need more practice. On a separate note: I'm looking into a new lathe and the Laguna 1836 is on the short list. Is that what you have? How do you like it? The cone you used seems to be from a big chunk of plastic. I made some from layers of plywood years ago, but have not been happy with them. Where did you get the HDPE or whatever you used?
Thank you very much Mark. Just keep making them and try and improve on what you are not liking. So practice practice and practice. Happy to answer any questions you have. I bought my 1836 in the mid 2018 and am happt with it. I 3D printed the cones and I used PLA filliment. Thanks for watching, Gary
How nice that you and your friend got to meet! Now it's you turn to go to Poland!!
Thank you Vincent it was pretty special.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing the video of your friend. One day I will buy me a lathe. Nice bowl. Makes me want to eat a bowl of cereal now.
Thank you John. I chose a simple turning for this as meeting him in person was the highlight of the symposium. Both Rav and his wife were fun to hang out with. Thanks for watching, Gary
Nice bowl, Gary. Even nicer that you got to meet your friend in person. When did you lose the beard? Bill
Thank you Bill. Yes we had a great time. Thanks for watching, Gary
YOU GOT TO MEET RAV!! That’s so cool!!! So glad he was able to come to the USA. Sorry Gary but seeing you talking with Rav is the best part of the video even though the little teak bowl was a nice one.
Wait just a minute Stuart...Rav got to meet me 😊😊 Just kidding I was very excited to meet him. A down to earth carrying man . It was an honor. Sure happy it had. Gary
@@ThePapa1947 My bad LOL
I always look forward to Fridays for a new turning video. I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you Todd I appreciate your comments and thanks for watching. Gary
The bowl is really nice! I also met him in Portland...we were on the same elevator and I said, "Wait, I know who you are and I introduced myself." I have watched him for years and he gave me a key fob. He told me I was the only person who recognized him. This was after the banquet on Saturday night. I wish I could have met you, too.
Thanks Carol. I sure wish I had known you were there. Could have got all 3 of us together. I left right after the banquet. My ankle said no more walking. Maybe next time. Gary
Cute little bowl and aren't friendships wonderful
@@garthkeck2003 thanks and yes they sure are.
What a wonderful day, you got to meet your friend in person! And that's a beautiful bowl. The Chaytoyance is fantastic!
Thanks Jane. A very pretty wood for sure. It was great meeting him. Was in the works for a year. Thanks to his friend in Seattle it happened. Thanks for watching, Gary
That’s awesome you and Rav! You guys look like you’re having a great time! Nice bowl too! Thanks Gary!
Thanks Bruce! We sure did have a good time. Thanks for watching, Gary
Nice looking bowl. Small is good. Great for change, keys, paperclips or whatever. I always know where my keys are because of a bowl.
Thanks Paul. I like the small ones as well. Good for snacks like cheese. Gary
I would have never thought to use hot glue, I will have to try this! Seems like it would be quite a bit cleaner to remove than wood glue. Thanks for the video :-)
Thanks Daniel. Just make sure the glue is hot. My gun will do 60 and 100 watts. Both work but I use 100 mostly. Gary
@@ThePapa1947 thanks Gary! I will make sure it's hot!
Nice little bowl
Thank you grambear8 I appreciate you watching and commenting.. Gary
Great turning, weirdly, we were cleaning my shed out today, and my wife found a piece of teak, so I'm going to have a go at turning it soon. Nice to see you meeting up with your friend.
Thank you Mark. I was rearranging (cleaning up) and found another piece of teak. Years ago my nephew (an old man now lol) worked at a cabinet shop and gave me some wood from the scrap barrel. Had a good time hanging out with my friend. Thanks for watching, Gary
That is a truly nice bowl. Teak is a versatile wood with nice grain. If I could have given this video two likes I would have. Not only was the turning great - the surprise video at the end was priceless. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Thank you my friend. I turned a number of matching sconces(candle holders) from Teak that came off a ship that was being scrapped. Beautiful wood. They still frame our fireplace after 50 years. For me the ending was the whole show. Take care , Gary
Lovely bowl Gary, teak is such a beautiful wood! It is nice that you were able to visit with your online buddy Rav at the wood working show, meeting friends like that makes the world a whole lot smaller, thanks! Cheers Al
Thank you Al! I am not big on these shows but I was not going to pass up meeting him in person. Take care, Gary
Beautiful little turning Gary thankyou for sharing
Thanks Ronnie. Happy you liked it. Gary
Very nice Gary. Love the simplicity.
Thank you!
Cool like always Gary. Yes I highly believe in the hot glue. Yes denatured alcohol just removes that glue for sure. Pretty piece. Thank you for sharing. See you next week
Thanks Albert and I agree with everything you said. Take care, Gary
Well, OK, nice job on the Teak bowl, Gary! I always forget about sealer and then Ack's after. Quick, easy and food safe. I gotta remember that! But, the star of this video was you and Rav sitting side by side! How cool is that! I'm sure it was a special feeling and time for both of you. I'm so glad you could finally meet in person. Take good care, my friend and keep'em coming! 😊 Phil
Thanks Phil. I picked that easy turning so I would be able to add the ending. Best for last. I asked Rav's wife to record it using my phone. They are both wonderful people. Next the glamor will be the wood 🤔 Take care buddy, Gary
Great little bowl, and another how to video, hey Thank you for sharing your meet up with long time you tube friend from nother country. All the best from Lincolnshire UK
Thanks Gary. I enjoy making this video and I'm happy you liked it. For sure it was great meeting Rav in person. Gary
Also it's good to finally see your face...the man behind the miracles 😀😀😀
Thanks so much. I wanted to get Rav in it and figured I should be as well Thanks for your comments. Gary
That was fun Gary, thanks for sharing and glad you got to meet your buddy. Stay safe.
Thank you very much. Nice to do something easy. Thanks for watching, Gary
Cool video Gary, nice to see the bonus video as well. Cheers
Thanks 👍 Happy you enjoyed the video. And the ending, Gary
Hi Gary and an excellent little project ,I use hot glue fairly often and my way of releasing it is using a hot air gun. Cheers and take care ,Bram
Great tip Bram. I will have to give that a try on the extra strength CA. Thanks for watching, Gary
Very nice, another great project.
Thanks so much David happy you enjoyed it. Gary
If you get the bowl too hot during sanding or aggressively drilling out the center with a large dia forsner bit it will also loosen up the hot glue joint and the bowl will depart the chuck! Leaned that the hard way🤣
If it is getting hot uou might be pressing to hard or spinning too fast. Both of prevent a good sanding job.
Thank You Gary.... This was a fun one ( Well Gary U were doing all the work & I'm just sitting here drinking coffee) Very nice show today on how to turn with out using the traditional holding techniques. I like this one and I am surprised at the holding power of hot glue and how quickly it can be removed.... Until Next Time Gary.... TM
Thank you tuffy. A lot of people do not trust hot glue. But it does work. Will I use it on a 20lb turning? Nope! But I trust it for what I do Thanks for watching, Gary
